To Decorate or Not to Decorate?

After Halloween, my corner cabinet looks awfully bare.  Thanksgiving at Love and Life at Leadora  revolves around the dinner and Christmas decorating commences the day after, so I own very few Thanksgiving decorations.   Also, the traditional fall colors of yellow, orange and brown look dreadful in my dining room.   This year, I decorated  my corner cabinet with some of my pink and white transferware, acorns from our large oak tree, decorative pumpkins, a pumpkin teapot, and my favorite little bird turine.

What's your Thanksgiving decorating style?  Do turkeys and pumpkins fill your home?  Or do you skip and go directly to Christmas?  To decorate or not to decorate?  I'd love to know your answer.  Let me know by leaving a comment!

  1. Your corner hutch is delightful. Tomorrow, I'm unveiling more Thanksgiving decor. It doesn't compare with my Halloween goodies, but I have a few.

  2. I find it hard to decorate for Thanksgiving since my mind is on Christmas. This year I'm determined to add a few items around the house that say "fall" to me.

I hope there will be a few turkeys scattered around because I think their silly and I get a kick out of them. Also, I have a running joke with my kids that I have the best turkey call this side of the Mississippi! Nothing livens up a boring car ride like spontaneous turkey calls LOL!

I like your display. It's simple and not over the top - in your face "thanksgiving". Very refreshing!

  3. Personally...no matter where we have lived or how big/small our house has been...I've just not been one to get into decorating for every single holiday. Especially Thanksgiving and Easter...just too darn commercial anymore. I've always been more about enjoying my family and friends and I can't do that if I'm stressing about pulling/packing decorations for every season. Hope this helps others feel the that it's okay to do the same ;)

  4. Though you think your cupboard looks bare, it is still quite lovely.

I decorate for every season, and every holiday. I've begun to weed out some of my decorations though. After all these years, they've begun to take over way too much precious storage.

  7. Hi Heather,
I think your little corner looks beautiful...It has just enough autumy/Thanksgiving touches. I too don't have many Thanksgiving decorations...except for autum inspired ones...not really Thanksgiving ones. But it works because I can keep them up all during the autumn season until I'm ready to decorate for Christmas. I cannot wait to start my Christmas decorating...I wait until right after Thanksgiving too to start...Can't wait to see all your Christmas decorating. I do hope you'll share :-)

    Hugs and Kisses,
    ♥Ana

  8. Your corner looks awesome. I'm like you in that the fall color thing just doesn't work for me. This is really the first year I decorated for fall and I think it was because I'm blogging and get so inspired by what others are doing. I love your idea. Sweet and simple...

  9. I have a country style and very rustic colors. The orange of pumpkins and fall leaves fit right in.
I think you can make any color work if you have enough of it. The pink is really nice. Some of the maple leaves around here are quite pink this time of year.

  11. I love love love your bird tureen. Everything looks great!

I decorated mostly with creams and soft blues for thanksgiving this year (which, for us Canadians, was in early October). I painted lots of pumpkins antique white. Not traditional colours, but works for us!

  13. I love your built-ins! I wish I had some in our dining room!
I'm the same way about Thanksgiving; not much fall decor looks good in my VERY red dining room. I don't really have much Thanksgiving decorations.
