Secret Santa with a Twist

Last Christmas, we started a new tradition at Love and Life at Leadora.   About a week after Thanksgiving, the five of us close our eyes and take turns randomly choosing names from a hat.    But this isn't the usual "Secret Santa" game.  There are 2 rules: You cannot spend more than $5 and your gift must be purchased from the 99 cents store!   Last year it was quite a hoot and the highlight of Christmas.  Isn't it funny how sometimes the simplest things are what we cherish the most?

  3. What a great idea! my mom and I also have a Secret Santa (huh!!) and we can't spent more than the equivalent of 4 dollars. It is a lot of fun, and more special. It doesn't have to be the most expensive gift, nor the holiday is entirely about them, right?
What a great family tradition!! I am sure it will go forever :o)
    have a lovely weekend!!

  4. On the subject of the 99 Cent Store, it is a not a bad place to go for emergency supplies. I learned this from my CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) teacher. You can buy a box with six gallons of bottled water in it for under $5. You can also stock up on their flashlights and batteries.

  6. I'm constantly surprised at things they sell at the dollar stores. My family enjoys the White Elephant gift exchange so much that when I tried to cancel it this year there was a rebellion.
