The Post Holiday Blues

Yesterday was our final Christmas celebration with family, and this morning I woke up with a case of the post holiday blues.  My symptoms include: exhaustion, malaise, indigestion, and extreme aversion to sweets and anything related to Christmas.   You can contract this illness by being exposed to the usual holiday stress, as well as staying up way too late, eating rich holiday foods, and trying to do way too much.   On top of all that, post holiday blues can be made worse by the realization that you still have all those Christmas decorations to put away and a huge after Christmas mess to deal with.

I realized long ago that post holiday blues are just my body's way of telling me it's time to go back to my simple pre-holiday life.  So this morning I took a long walk, had a healthy breakfast, and decided that the Christmas decorations could stay put another day.  I feel better already, and by tomorrow I should be able to tackle all those wonderful after Christmas tasks!

  2. Heather, I totally get it! I just forced myself yesterday to put it all way and move forward to a simpler less chaotic life. ONCE YOU DO IT YOU WILL FEEL A SENSE OF RELIEF! Have a wonderful day! Traci

  3. I get the blues because it is all over.. my favorite time of year is Halloween through christmas. Now what?? Even though I have been sick these past few days I am still trying to stay christmassy. Heck before you know it we'll be seeing pink and red hearts all over the blogs.
    Have a great week

  5. Usually I would do a major cleaning after putting away the Christmas stuff as I had put away so much stuff to make room for the decorations.
Before I would put anything back out I would edit very carefully what was going to make its way back into the rooms.
Because I put out so little this year I think it will hardly be noticed.
I don't get the blues though. I just look forward to all the things I will have time for now that Christmas isn't taking up every bit of energy and time.

  7. I know what you mean!! My tummy is not feeling well, which is odd, considering I took care of what I ate. I guess it's just stress, and the grumpy feeling I have of HAVING to go to work. Yep...no break whatsoever!! :o( I too long for some "regular" life, which to us will come after Epiphany on January 6th. That's right: still more food and gatherings to come!!
God, please give me strength. And give Heather some as well!! :o)
    have a good day!

  8. Amen sista! You totally hit the nail on the head. I think the week between Christmas and New Years is a strange one, I feel like I should flip the calendar over and get ready to start fresh but it isn't quite time.
P.S. Your porch looks super cute too!

  9. I can totally relate. It's a good thing Chinese New Year is coming up in February or our house would be awfully bare. I definitely need to step up the exercise routine after all these Christmas goodies.
