Another Kitchen Update!

Over the weekend, my wonderful MacGyver husband was able to install my brand new GE Cafe microwave and range.  I chose the GE Cafe for two reasons.  First, it has the look of a professional style range without the expensive price tag.  Secondly, the GE Cafe range has a baking drawer!  I would love double ovens, but there just isn't space in my small kitchen nor in the pocketbook!

As you can see, we still haven't put on the cabinet doors just yet.   I ordered knobs and handles from Home Depot and am anxiously awaiting for them to arrive.    Also, I'm still trying to decide a backsplash.  Originally, I was going to put a piece of stainless behind the stovetop, but now I'm thinking of tiling all the way across.  Tile?  Don't ask what kind!  I'm not sure, but I'm leaning towards penny tile or perhaps marble.  You'll just have to wait and see!

It's been terribly hard to cook on the new range.  It works beautifully, but I want it to stay perfect!  I'm convinced that people who design showcase kitchens for hundreds of thousands of dollars don't cook in them!  Anyway, the hungry diners here at Love and Life at Leadora would never allow that, and as soon as the range was put in, they demanded cookies.  After much pressure, I finally broke down and baked espresso double-chocolate chunk cookies.  I'm not sure if it was the new oven or my outstanding baking, but MacGyver husband proclaimed, "These are the best cookies you've ever made"!

  3. I love getting little glimpses of your kitchen! The stove is very upscale looking. I know what you mean about keeping it clean. It took me several months before I could cook anything messy on mine. I still fret over it. I'd be a nervous wreck if I had one of those high dollar ones. lol
Everything is looking great! I thought you were going to say subway tiles but penny tiles would be pretty too. And marble would be beautiful!

  4. Your stove is so pretty! I love cooking on gas, but since we don't have gas here, I had to get an electric stove (yuck). I saw some glass tile at Home Depot that I have fallen in love with, but marble would look very classy in there.

  5. BTW, did you do anything special to get it to say reply underneath your comments?

  6. I think that it is mainly the baker, but a new oven does help! I know what you mean about not messing up your pretty appliances. But with two minions it is impossible. I do take more time when it comes to cleaning. My vow is to keep it looking new as long as I can.

I love tile, but marble is beautiful. We have cultured marble in our master bathroom, and it certainly gives it a classy look. I have no doubt that it will be lovely no matter what you choose.

    Yummy looking cookies...
    Have a great weekend,
    Cindy

  7. Everything looks to be coming right along. When I first saw the pic I thought you had shiny, white subway tile across the back. It's late and I need sleep, haha. Whatever tile you go with I'm sure will be lovely.

  10. yeah! what a fabulous way to break in your new oven! it's beautiful BTW! looks like it cost thousands of dollars! but what do I know, I've never had to buy a new stove.
ummm... I vote for tile - stainless steel seems hard to keep clean-looking! can't wait for the full un-veiling!

    2. Oh I am dreaming of gas stove such as this! One thing I don't like about living in an apartment is I have to endure cooking on an electric coil stove :)
      Your kitchen is beautiful!

  15. Wow...it does look impressive. I would love a baking drawer too. Can't wait to see what you choose for a backsplash. I'm a huge fan of subway tile. It wouldn't break the bank and would be relatively easy. Whatever you decide will be great...can't wait to see.
